The links are to download the Microsoft® Visual Studio® 10 runtime. If a program is built with Microsoft® Visual Studio® 10 but does not specifically ignore the MSVCRT (and MSVCRTD) libraries then the application will link against them and the DLL’s will be required for the programs to run.
#1: The links are not to hacks. They are there for people who want to run the hack and do not have the Microsoft® Visual Studio® 10 runtime. There is no hack download link there so I don’t see the point of this faulty post.
#2: The makers of the hack seem to be a bit naive. Why force everyone to download the Microsoft® Visual Studio® 10 runtime libraries when you could instead just not link to it?
Disable manifest generation/embedding and “Ignore Specific Library” MSVCRT (MSVCRTD for debug mode).
You have to know your tools before you can make decent hacks.
Of course I could be wrong; every other version of Microsoft® Visual Studio® has this feature, but perhaps Microsoft® Visual Studio® 10 suddenly decided to force linking to their runtime.
But I highly doubt it.
