Expression search uses only custom functions ?

Postby Aspras » Mon Jun 01, 2009 6:04 pm

I am on windows 7 so I have to have the custom functions for reading/writing unchecked. The expression search does not seem to work, while by doing a normal unsigned long search with aligned unchecked i find the address, when using expression search (with aligned = 1) and ?? == "the value whos address I have already found" I find nothing. I thought this has to do with the fact that I have custom functions unchecked.

I can verify that there is no problem with the Expression Search on Windows Vista and Windows XP.

I do not have Windows 7 so if this is a Windows 7 bug then there is nothing I can do.

Take your address and put it into the Expression Evaluator in the form of [MYADDRESS]. Check the result. If it is the value you expect, then the Expression Search is working properly.

It was found when I used aligned = 2 , isnt 1 supposed to make it scan all the addresses one by one ?

It does. And I have verified it on Windows Vista and Windows XP.

If you are sure there is a failure somewhere you will have to explain exactly how you are searching, the value of the byte(s), the address, the search range, etc.

From the sounds of it, it is a problem specific to Windows 7 and you will need to upgrade to Windows XP.

Then its something windows 7 specific cause aligned 1 does not return any address. The address range and data type as well as the expression are the same as in normal search. More specifically:

Data Type Search:

Data Type: Unsigned Long
Evaluation Type: Exact Value
Value to Find: 997451
Aligned: Unchecked
Search range: from 00400000 to 7FFF0000

Expression Search:

Expression: ?? == 997451
Treat current value as: Unsigned Long
Alignment: 1
Search range: from 00400000 to 7FFF0000

The debugger is also very laggy and takes like 2 minutes to open up completely. I dont want to go back to XP cause I feel like I shouldnt be left behind although I cant do my job without MHS so if the debugger and all the rest work normally on Vista I'll downgrade to that.

Windows XP is nowhere near being left behind. It is still the operating system of choice around the globe. Hard to even find anything else in Japan.

Yes everything works normally on Windows Vista. MHS is developed on Windows Vista.

But if you can, try this search on Windows Vista or Windows XP before you upgrade.
