VAC Question : Steam

Postby minorutono » Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:40 am

If I hack Single Player games from Steam (i.e. Portal) or even Multiplayer games in single player mode (i.e. CounterStrike).. As long as its single player, can VAC catch me? Because I really don't feel like losing my Steam account (which I just got), but practicing hacking a new game would be fun...

VAC won't do anything unless you are on an online server with VAC Enabled. Single player will be just fine as well as multiplayer if you are on server with it disabled.

I don’t know anything about VAC, but i think i got the issue...

If you are going to hack them while playing it in Single Player mode,
you can disable your network connection temporarily to avoid such
unwanted circumstances...

This way, i guess, they won’t be able to detect your cheating activities
unless they are aliens...

Ouch, I feel dumb ^^.

I thought that since the games run off Steam and you need to be logged in to run them (off Steam), that if you severed connection it wouldn't work. But I just tried it and it does work, so .. Fail ^^.

But a similar question : There are no anti-hacks built into the offline mode parts? Because its not unheard of for anti-hacks to make a log detailing random things..

JW. Being extra-cautious cause i don't feel like losing my steam acc.

I'm certain that they won't ban you for using hacks offline. I've done it plenty of times (In unsecure multiplayer servers as well) and I've never received a ban. Steam (VAC included) doesn't care what players do with their games unless they are interfering with other player's experiences with them, hacking secured online servers is the only thing that falls into that category.
