[Suggestion] Sort By Click Buttons

Postby trialusert » Wed Aug 05, 2009 8:15 pm

How about making the buttons of the Found Addresses list clickable?
It would be really helpful if we could sort those addresses.
It happens a lot that I find myself searching within that list for minutes...
I made a little animation to share my visual:

I think this would be a nice feature as well. Unless, of course, there is another way of doing this that I am unaware of.

Nice visual by the way.

Data listviews can not be sorted except by sorting the actual data.
Since this is the Found Address List, the actual data is the list of addresses.
It is impossible to sort the list of addresses (except via address, which is how they are always sorted).

I don't get it. Why can't it be sorted by value for example? Or by "Distance from..." (as in pointer searches)? What is impossible?
The only reason I can think of is because the current values are updating... But even if they are, the list doesn't have to be constantly sorted. It will suffice if it gets sorted only when the button is clicked.

Because you can not sort the list of addresses.

#1: There are far too many addresses to even sort.
#2: Even if there were only a few addresses, the internal data structure inside MHS requires the addresses to be sorted by address. Changing the order would crash MHS and break the Pentagon.

Well in this case, I give up. We don't deal with the Pentagon...

Every time I get a pointer search list I click that header in hopes it'll sort this time.

This is one of those features that would make life so much simpler.

I'd give 2x the cost of the function in memory to keep a lookup table of all the addresses sorted by distance just so this will work.

L.Spiro what about, if you right click in the list "go to nearest" it only selects that address. what about actually showing that address in the list ( not changing the order but just moving the scrollbar to that point? with 40.000 results it takes a while to find that selected address.
