Problem with Code Filter in 4.0.19

Postby fabsyi » Thu Jun 19, 2008 6:52 am

Hi,
I am having an issue with the Code Filter in 4.0.19. I try to load calc.exe, go into Code Filter, add a new filter, then click "go". When I move my mouse over the calculator window, the whole program just crashes. I've tried this numerous times and I can't get it to work.
In 4.0.18 this worked fine. Any suggestions L. Spiro?

Another question, when I load a program, using Open for Debug, and ticking the "Pause After Load" tickbox, I am then unable to load the Code Filter, it just freezes the program when I choose the Menu Option. I am trying to run a code filter on a console application that quickly spits out some output on startup then quits itself. I can't open it normally, because it would have quit by the time I go into code filter.
Do you have any suggestions on how I could go about doing this, as "Pause after Load" method doesn't seem to work with the Code Filter.

Thanks for your time.

I did not do anything that would cause that target program to crash more often but MHS does now. I will fix it when I find out why.
If you get crashes in the target process, use Settings/Include and uninclude some types of functions.

I have not tested it with Pause After Load and will see what the problem is and fix it soon.

The following is some info on the MHS crash I got when running the Code Filter in 4.0.19 if it is of any help to you.

Crash module: MHS.exe
Crash location: 4dc492
Crash type: Access violation - eax was used as a pointer when eax was equal to 0.

The disassembly listing showed this location to be a few instructions after a call to QueryPerformanceCounter().

Hope some of this may be useful to you in finding the problem.

L. Spiro,

I am encountering a problem with the code filter too, but it is different. Everytime when I attach to a program and start code-filtering, MHS just crashes and the opened process crashes, not only calc.exe, but winmine.exe and other windows games. I don't know what has happened, but I have not encountered the same problem before.

Settings/Include
Disable Guesses and Exports.

I tried to use Codefilter but it breaks system completely. Neither turn off functions didn't help (then nothing was recorded by codefilter), nor turn on functions (then system crashed, hung completely, hard reset was needed).

Any ideas?

You need to specify operating system and processor type.

Use it on smaller processes such as Minesweeper and see if the result is the same.

Try it with none of them checked.
